Cities@Heart at the ESC Congress 2026
Bringing Our Work to the Global Cardiology Community.
The European Society of Cardiology (ESC) Congress is the largest annual gathering of cardiovascular health professionals in the world, and this year, it brought together close to 34,000 participants in the field. Cities@Heart made its presence known. Over the course of the event in Munich, our team took part in a series of activities designed to strengthen the project internally and share our work with the wider cardiovascular health community.
Aligning as a consortium
The Congress began with an internal Steering Committee meeting, bringing together representatives from across the Cities@Heart consortium. The meeting was an opportunity for partners to align on progress, discuss ongoing work across the project's work packages, and agree on next steps, ensuring the consortium continues to move forward together as the project develops.
Showcasing Cities@Heart to industry
Cities@Heart was also featured at the Industry Session on Digital Health Tech, organised by Huawei. The session brought together industry stakeholders working at the intersection of digital technology and healthcare, giving our team the chance to present how Cities@Heart is using digital health innovation to help reduce the burden of cardiovascular disease in cities across Europe.
Joining the conversation at ESC TV Connect
Rounding out our Congress activities, the team joined ESC TV Connect, engaging directly with the ESC's own communications platform to talk about the project's vision and the road ahead. It was a valuable chance to reach an audience of cardiovascular health practitioners who might not otherwise encounter the project.
Why the ESC Congress matters to Cities@Heart
As a Horizon Europe-funded project working to tackle cardiovascular disease at the city level, Cities@Heart depends on visibility among the practitioners, researchers, and policymakers who will ultimately put our findings into practice. The ESC Congress, gathering tens of thousands of cardiovascular health experts each year, is one of the most important places to build that visibility.
Franck Perraudin, Cities@Heart's Industry Lead at Novartis, reflected on what the Congress meant for the project this year:
"The 2026 ESC Congress in Munich was a unique opportunity to project Cities@Heart to cardiovascular health practitioners, leveraging different ESC communications channels and platforms. It was rewarding to be part of this unique yearly event, gathering more than 40,000 experts. As the Congress has now closed, we are already looking ahead to next year's ESC Congress in Milan, where we'll present the progress of our different initiatives."
