Work Package 5

Detection strategy

WP5 aims to identify and improve existing approaches to detect individuals at risk of incident CVD, and those with high probability of adverse CVD outcomes or recurrent CVD events. This will enable timely and appropriate promotion of lifestyle modification, therapeutic intervention, or optimisation of therapeutic approaches to meet current clinical guidelines.

 

The focus is on individuals with elevated CVD risk using established scores (such as SCORE2 and QRISK3), elevation in blood pressure, dyslipidaemia, CVD-related inflammatory biomarkers, and those who are obese or have (pre)diabetes. Existing and novel technology will be evaluated for its ability to address the needs of both community and healthcare priorities.

Work Package 5 is co-led by the University of Edinburgh and Huawei with support from the Polish Mother's Memorial Hospital.

Evaluate strategies to improve the detection of individuals at risk of first or recurrent CVD.

Tailor detection approaches to maximise application to communities with health inequality.

Identify data-driven, health technology and AI-based opportunities to support earlier detection of CVD.

Compare and contrast detection strategies across pilot cities to inform adaptation and scaling.
