Work Package 4

Prevention strategy

WP4 will evaluate urban strategies to prevent cardiovascular disease (CVD) at different stages, including reducing risk factors, preventing disease onset, and improving care for those already affected. The work focuses on promoting healthier lifestyles, supporting appropriate medical treatment for key risk factors such as high blood pressure, cholesterol, obesity, and diabetes, and improving healthcare access for high-risk individuals.

 

By addressing these major drivers of CVD, the project will demonstrate how cities can reduce new cases of disease, lower CVD-related deaths, and tackle health inequalities in line with local health action plans.

Leaders

Work Package 4 is led by Cork City Council with support from Daiichi Sankyo Europe. 

Objectives

Identify, improve and develop interventions to promote CVD prevention at an urban level.

Support implementation and capacity building of CVD prevention in underserved local communities.

Utilise novel measures and tools across intervention points to augment data capture and analysis relevant to obesity, hypertension, dyslipidaemia and diabetes.

Dyslipidemia is a metabolic disorder characterized by abnormally high or low amounts of any or all lipids (fatstriglyceridescholesterolphospholipids) or lipoproteins in the blood.

Use robust evaluation methods to assess effectiveness, cost-effectiveness and the potential for dissemination.
