About the event

The 2026 Annual Business Meeting and Technical Conference marks a landmark moment for the WHO European Healthy Cities Network: 40 years since the Ottawa Charter for Health Promotion and the official launch of Phase VIII (2026–2030).

The WHO European Healthy Cities Network advances its work in multi-year programmatic phases, providing a collective vision and coordinated action for cities across the WHO European Region. Phase VIII introduces a renewed focus on creating healthier, more equitable and sustainable urban environments through seven core pillars - People · Place · Planet · Participation · Prosperity · Peace · Prepare

Together, these pillars guide cities to protect health, promote well-being, and build resilience for current and future generations.

Under the umbrella theme Healthy Cities for Healthy Generations, this year’s conference explores how cities can shape environments that enable people to thrive throughout their entire lives, from early childhood to older age.
